Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine; Kyoto, Japan

The Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine has thousands of red torii (japanese gates) that straddle the path up to Mount Inari.  The Shinto shrine is one of Kyoto's most famous sites.  It was a humbling experience to walk under the thousands of red torii.

Outside of Japanese temples, there is usually a basin of water with bamboo ladles for purifying your hands and mouth.  The sign above demonstrates the process. The process is called Temizu and it means "water on the palms."

Foxes are the messengers for Inari (Shinto deity).  Shintoism is a form of Japanese spirituality.
