Ni Hao (Hello) China

After a long day of traveling from New Zealand to China, we met up with our good friends from Austin, Zach and Shelly.  Shelly's sister, Fanny, and brother-in-law, Dan, live in Guangzhou in southern China.  They were extremely gracious to allow us to stay with them and show us around the city.  It was a perfect introduction to the Chinese culture before the four of us headed out on our own to explore China.

First things first, Jeff gets a much needed hair cut....

Thankfully we had Fanny to help communicate.  Although, she tried to convince the stylist to shave an apple logo into the back of his head.

Fanny and Dan took us to a Tibetan food restaurant.  We ate several dishes made with yak including yak milk tea and saw several traditional Tibetan dances.

We were really excited to see this sign, thinking it was a Mexican food restaurant.  Turns out it was a clothing store.

Metalsmith

At first glance you may think this is a sign for a pet store... upon closer look it's really a restaurant advertisement. Dog is considered a delicacy.  We saw it on several menus throughout our travels in China.
