Afternoon Trek Through Rice Paddies in Ubud

Ubud is actually several different villages that have merged together overtime to form one large town. The local people still largely make a living out of farming rice. A short walk north of town and we arrived in the sprawling rice paddies.

Since the climate is conducive to growing year round the rice fields are in several different stages of growth and harvest.

The fields are flooded to aid in growth and ease the harvesting of the rice.

Where there is water there are ducks!

Locals working in the fields together.

Coconut shells drying on a fence.

Carrying a bundle of wood atop his head.

Rice!!!

Path through the fields.

At one point the path got a bit treacherous as it wound down into a ravine. We thought about continuing through foliage until we saw a huge snake and decided to make a hasty retreat.
